StorageMart Helps Get Kids on the Ice

This summer StorageMart locations across Canada entered into a partnership with Skate to Great to help bring the joy of ice skating to children who otherwise might not have access to a pair of skates to call their own.

Skate to Great is a Canadian-based non-profit organization collecting donated new and gently used ice skates (both hockey and figure skates), hockey helmets and sticks and distributes them to organizations serving deserving and at-risk kids across Canada.  We were excited for the opportunity to help Skate to Great in its mission and have played our part by making every StorageMart location in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Ontario available as a drop-off point of donated equipment.

Skating is such a fundamental part of Canadian culture and growing up in Canada that finding a way to get a pair of skates on the feet of any child who wants to learn just seems natural.  We’ve enjoyed the chance to help Skate to Great make this wish come true for deserving children throughout Canada.

Formed in the spring of 2012, Skate to Great is a relatively new organization, but it’s also one seeing immediate success, having collected more than 3,000 pairs of skates and 400 hockey helmets in 2012 with an eye toward even greater success by the time 2013 comes to a close.

About Skate to Great
Skate to Great was created in March 2012 out of a dream to provide every child the opportunity to skate, regardless of their circumstances.  Two friends, a top ranked Canadian figure skater and a young entrepreneur had a conversation about kids growing up in Canada and how much skating is embedded in Canada’s national conscience.  They decided, with skating being second nature in Canada, every child should be given this opportunity.  Skate to Great was registered in March 2012 as a not-for-profit organization.  For more information, please visit www.skatetogreat.org.
