StorageMart on Atlantic Ave in Brooklyn, NY is CLOSING

Eminent Domain takes the last hold-out in the Atlantic Yards area

The New York State Urban Development Corporation dba Empire State Development (ESD) has been trying for years to take over our property located at 718 Atlantic Ave as part of the Atlantic Yards project.  Unfortunately it finally succeeded on August 29, 2014.

Over the past few weeks, StorageMart has been advocating on our tenants’ behalf to get the ESD to agree to a reasonable date for emptying the building. We understand the frustration in having to find another storage facility and moving on such short notice.

The ESD has taken ownership of the building and is providing tenants of the building with a 90-day notice to vacate their storage unit. As per the ESD, tenants must vacate their storage unit by December 18, 2014.

The ESD is allowing StorageMart to manage this move-out process and assist tenants in getting the information they need. We’ve sent letters and emails to tenants of the Atlantic Ave building to notify them that they must vacate their storage unit and be out of the building by December 18, 2014.  It is unknown to us at this time how the ESD will deal with anyone who has not vacated their storage unit by the deadline.

StorageMart has listed three locations below that are close to Atlantic Ave; we would be happy to accommodate Atlantic Ave tenants at any of these alternate locations:

50 Wallabout Street, near the BQE Kent Ave exit and the Navy Yard
718.522.9055

980 4th Ave, right off of the 38th St exit on the BQE in Sunset Park
718.499.3999

18402 Jamaica Ave, Hollis, Queens. Not far from where the Grand Central and Van Wyck meet
718.454.0520

StorageMart is offering a free month to tenants who are relocating to one of the above locations. This offer is on a first come, first serve basis and availability is limited. We would urge Atlantic Ave tenants to rent a storage unit at one of these locations quickly.
