Shoe In for Foster Care Lines Missouri Capitol with 4,800 Shoes

StorageMart recently joined Charity Storage partner the Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption Association (CMFCAA) to raise the level of awareness of the needs of children living in foster care in the state of Missouri. “Shoe In for Foster Care” was a month-long drive to collect donated shoes, during which nearly 4,800 pairs of shoes were accumulated. Those shoes were then lined up on the steps of the Missouri State Capitol, creating a visual representing the “forgotten souls” without a permanent home to call their own.

“The Shoe In for Foster Care event was a unique opportunity for CMFCAA to visually represent the more than 10,000 children and youth currently living in foster care in the State of Missouri,” CMFCAA Program Director Nicole Elliott said. “The goal was to advocate for, raise awareness of and find forever families for Missouri’s foster children. We were excited to see so many people come out to support us and were thrilled at how many people stopped and asked how they could best make a difference in a child’s life.”

Following the event on the Capitol steps, the shoes were collected and donated to Hope for Caribbean Kids, Inc. Hope for Caribbean Kids, Inc. will work in coordination with the Shoeman Water Project to sell the shoes to help fund the building of schools in Haiti and clean water programs in both Haiti and Kenya.

StorageMart has been a longtime friend and supporter of CMFCAA and Hope for Caribbean Kids, Inc.,” StorageMart Marketing Director Sarah Little said. “We were grateful for the opportunity to play a role in an event which will not only benefit local communities, but also create a ripple effect across the world.”
