Roots N Blues Music Festival, Columbia, MO
The 12th Annual Roots N Blues N BBQ Festival in Columbia, MO, is one of the biggest musical events in the state. Featuring 30 artists from around the country, both local musicians and established bands, the festival promises three days of soulful music and incredible BBQ. This year's festival features The Avett Brothers.
The Avett Brothers
Scott and Seth Avett grew up in Concord, North Carolina, where they dreamed of folk music stardom as they wrote and performed for friends, family, and talent shows. After college, the brothers wrote several guitar and banjo songs, and began performing in coffee shops and bars in Charlotte and Concord. After bringing Bob Crawford into the group, the brothers wrote and recorded Country Was in their parents garage, and began touring. Equating their 14 show/21 day tour to Homer's Odyssey, Seth Avett writes, "[The tour was] complete with rhyming, celebrations, frustrations, earth-shattering realizations, challenges overcome, and sirens." As the brothers toured, their music gained inspiration from every bar, town, and state that the rising stars visited. Their music began to take on the sound that remains today, often described as a mix of haunting, happy, heartbreaking, and soulful.
