Take Five: Fun Outdoor Winter Activities in Regina

If you can’t beat them, join them.

That’s the philosophy in Regina, Canada, where winters are indeed chilly. But instead of staying home and keeping out of the cold, residents bundle up and head out for adventure.

Here are five of our favorite ways to enjoy winter in Regina.

Sharpen Your Blades

You could skate at a different rink almost every day of winter in Regina, which maintains 59 outdoor rinks typically open through mid-February. Check out the rink at Victoria Park to enjoy views of downtown.

Head to Wascana Centre

You can ice-skate at Wascana Centre —and a lot more. Grab a pair of snowshoes and traverse the entire lake. There’s also tobogganing, cross-country skiing, and hiking. If you need an excuse to visit Wascana Lake, keep reading to learn about Regina’s premier winter festival …

Enjoy Outdoor Snow Activities in Regina

It’s all about family fun at the Waskimo Winter Festival, which takes place on Feb. 18. You’ll find outhouse races, as well as a dress-up-your-dog contest, ice skate-windsurfing, tobogganing, snow cricket, snow-shoeing, cross-country skiing, and sleigh rides—all on the frozen Wascana Lake.

Look Up

The stars look different at this time of year. Head to the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Regina Centre to do some star-gazing and check out the night sky in winter.

The Next Best Thing

On those days when it’s just too cold to go out, head to Cabela’s and check out the 50,000-square-foot store, including an indoor waterfall, two-lane archery range, and 170 taxidermy mounts.
