Columbia, Missouri, is the place to be during the last weekend of September, and especially on Saturday the 28th. The city is home to the annual Roots N Blues N BBQ Americana Music Festival that is the premier combination of a folk music festival and a blues music festival in the heart of a region of the United States that is famous for both styles. Throw in some Missouri BBQ, and you have the perfect mix of entertainment and eating!
This Midwest music festival sponsored by StorageMart is always scheduled for September to take advantage of the potentially pleasant weather that allows for a full weekend-long event packed with music and activities for the whole family. The event kicks off on Friday afternoon, but the Saturday schedule of events begins at noon for the early birds who are ready to eat and enjoy the affair at lunchtime. This year's lineup looks to be excellent, with a solid mix of popular local and up-and-coming talent as well as several well-known national stars. There is a little something for everyone at the Roots N Blues N BBQ festival, and there is a whole lot of entertainment for those who truly enjoy both blues and folk music.
The Columbia, Missouri, Community
Columbia is the home of the University of Missouri, and it is a modern city that is just small enough for any event such as Roots N Blues N BBQ to be a down-home experience while being large enough to offer all of the services available in a metropolitan location. Festival BBQ vendors are not the only attraction outside of the musical acts and international art displays as Columbia offers several excellent eateries and other attractions for everyone's taste.
The actual festival site is located at Stephens Lake Park, and the three-day event allows for plenty of time to visit the sites around town and still not miss any action at the festival. It's a great destination for a weekend excursion or even a weeklong vacation to a vibrant, positive community for families of any type. Visitors can even bring their recreational toys which can be stored at any of our local facilities in the Columbia area for safekeeping while not in use.
The Saturday Music Lineup
Saturday is indeed the day of focus when it comes to the array of performers displaying their talents at Roots N Blues N BBQ. With 30 performers lined up for the weekend, there will be two stages for attendees to choose from when deciding which act interests them most. The stages have aptly been named The Great Southern Bank Stage and The Missouri Lottery Stage, chosen for their sponsorship. The order of appearance is already set, and the showtimes are designated for each stage. It is important to note that the stages will set up in different areas of Stephens Lake Park in order to prevent acts from interfering with each other in case performances overlap. The staggered time allowances should also help with this issue. Be prepared for mobility when there are acts on each stage you want to catch. After all, it is a festival!
Great Southern Bank Stage
The Saturday show on The Great Southern Bank Stage begins around noon with John Henry, who will play from 12:15 p.m. until 1 p.m. The remaining acts for the day on The Great Southern Bank Stage include:

• Doug Kershaw featuring The Dave & Deke Combo 3 p.m.-4 p.m.

• Alejandro Escovedo 6:15 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
• The Mavericks 8:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m.
Missouri Lottery Stage
The Saturday event begins on The Missouri Lottery Stage at staggered intervals, and set times are already determined as well. The opening act will be Kent Burnside & the Flood Brothers beginning at 1 p.m. and playing until 2 p.m. Interlude times between acts is 30 minutes just as with The Great Southern Bank stage and are as follows:
• The National Reserve 2:30 p.m.-3:30 p.m.
• Black Pumas 4 p.m.-5:15 p.m.
• The War and Treaty 5:45 p.m.-7 p.m.

Tickets for Saturday
While tickets are available for the entire weekend event, they can still be purchased for individual days. Wristbands will also be issued with tickets to avoid confusion for those wandering about the festival site, and there is also a nominal parking fee that will be going specifically to the Columbia Park & Recreations Department as public support.
Information for tickets can be found on the official festival website, and ticket prices are categorized for the entire event as a VIP for the weekend and individual day rates. This year's event also includes an upgrade in payment processing, and debit and credit cards for food and drinks should be accepted at each vendor station.
