StorageMart Offers Free Storage Space to Some of Brooklyn’s Newest Residents

Brooklyn, New York – July 3, 2013 – Recognizing how stressful a change in career and the required moving of one’s home can be, StorageMart, a full-service self storage company with more than 130 locations across the United States and Canada (including six in the New York City Metropolitan Area), is offering six months of free storage to Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Jason Terry and Mason Plumlee to help facilitate their upcoming moves to the Brooklyn area.

Garnett, Pierce and Terry, recently of the Boston Celtics of the National Basketball Association, are expected to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets once NBA trades can become official on July 12, 2013.  Plumlee was recently selected by the Brooklyn Nets in the NBA Draft following his successful collegiate playing career at Duke University.

The Nets will be the third NBA franchise for Kevin Garnett, who was originally drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 1995.  He was voted the NBA’s Most Valuable Player in 2004 after leading the Timberwolves to a franchise-record 58 wins.  He was traded from the Timberwolves to the Boston Celtics following the 2007 season.  In his first season with Boston, Garnett helped lead the Celtics to their first NBA Championship since 1986.

Paul Pierce was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1998 following an All-American collegiate career at the University of Kansas.  He is a 10-time NBA All-Star and was the Most Valuable Player of the NBA Finals in 2008 when he teamed up with Garnett to lead the Celtics to an NBA Championship.

The Brooklyn Nets will be the fourth NBA stop for Jason Terry, who was originally drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in 1999 following an All-American career at the University of Arizona where he helped lead the Wildcats to the 1997 NCAA Tournament Championship.  He was a reserve player for the Dallas Mavericks when they won the NBA Championship in 2011.

Mason Plumlee was a McDonald’s High School All-American at Christ School (Arden, North Carolina) before attending Duke University.  Plumlee was a two-time Academic All-American and named to the All-American Second Team following the 2012-2013 season.  He was a member of the Duke team that won the NCAA Tournament in 2010.

A fixture in the self storage and moving industries for nearly 15 years, StorageMart recognizes the stresses involved with an unexpected, career-related move, whether it be professionals experiencing changes in their career or recent collegiate graduates entering into a career for the first time.  As part of the Brooklyn community, StorageMart is seeking to alleviate those stresses for these players, so they may focus more fully on their collective goal of delivering an NBA Championship to the people of Brooklyn and fans of the Nets.

“So many of our storage customers across the United States and Canada come to us because they are starting a new job in a new city and are so busy getting settled they need some time and help to get organized,” StorageMart spokesman Tron Jordheim said.  “I would imagine being traded or drafted to a new basketball team involves a lot of press conferences, interviews, practices and meetings.  Sometimes the move involved with getting your dream job can be incredibly stressful even if the new job is a blast.  We’d like to make that move easier for the newest Brooklyn Nets by providing them storage units to make their move to the city easier. GO NETS!”

This offer of six months of free storage is available at any of the six stores StorageMart has in the New York Metro Area.  A StorageMart property is conveniently located at 718 Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, NY, just one block from the Barclay’s Center, home court of the Brooklyn Nets.  Opened in 2012, the Barclay’s Center was built primarily as the new home of the Brooklyn Nets, who made the move to Brooklyn for the 2012-13 NBA season after having been based in East Rutherford, New Jersey since 1977.
