How Does the Storage Process Work?

Whether you’re new to self storage in general or curious about how things work, you can find answers to the most commonly asked questions about general self storage and procedures at our storage facilities below.

General Storage Questions

How do I rent a storage unit?

You can rent a storage unit on our website, in-person during the facility's office hours, or by calling us 24/7.

To rent online, you can search by city or zip code to find a facility near you. Select the unit based on the size and features you need (use our handy Self Storage Calculator if you're not sure what size you're looking for), and then follow the prompts to check out.

If you call or stop by, our storage experts will be happy to help you navigate the rental process.

Whichever way you prefer to rent, just pop into the facility office on move-in day to sign your lease and provide a valid photo ID.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO RENT A UNIT?

When it is time to check into your unit, you’ll need to provide a government issued photo ID. You will also need the first months rent, but only if you have not already paid. If you are using your own coverage to insure your unit, we recommend bringing your proof of insurance as well.

DO I NEED A RESERVATION?

It is highly recommended you reserve ahead of time, but you can swing by unannounced and rent a unit during office hours; however, we cannot guarantee your first choice will be available in that case. To speed up the move-in process, we strongly suggest calling ahead or reserving online.

Can I rent self storage for another person?

No, you can't rent a storage unit for another person. The person who is renting the storage unit must show up to sign the lease.

Can I save time reserving online?

You'll save time on moving day by reserving online today. Just be sure to stop by the office for a quick check in on move-in day.

Can I rent storage online without going in person?

You will save time and money by renting online, but we do need you to stop by the facility office to check in on moving day. If you've completed the online rental process and submitted payment, just provide a copy of your ID and sign the lease.

Do I need a credit card to reserve a unit?

You don't need a credit card. You can reserve a storage unit online today and pay in-store when you check in on move-in day.

What is The cancellation policy?

Please contact your facility manager to cancel a unit or notify us of your move-out.

HOW DO I MOVE OUT?

Though we hate to see anyone go, we make the move-out process as simple as possible. Just let us know you're leaving and empty your room, and we'll close out your account the day your unit is cleared. As a courtesy, we ask that you give us notice that you will vacate your unit a month before you leave.

Can I change my storage unit size later?

We're happy to help you select a different unit should you find that your needs have changed. Just come to the facility during office hours.

Can I move from one Location to another?

Absolutely. Please note that pricing from store-to-store varies based on each location's availability, so your current price will not transfer. The best place to start is by talking to the manager at your existing facility to notify them of your intent to move out, and in most cases, they can help you rent a unit at the new location as well.

Do you require insurance?

We require all customers to have proof of insurance or opt-in to our Value Coverage option. While not an insurance policy, our Value Coverage option is the most convenient way to satisfy this provision. We will give you Value Coverage free for your month of move-in. Please contact your facility manager to learn more.

How much does value coverage cost?

We offer a variety of Value Coverage packages based on the amount of coverage you need. We never charge a deductible, and our Value Coverage is free for your move-in month.

Are there any restrictions on what I can store?

We don't allow perishable items such as food, things that produce a noxious smell, anything flammable, or explosives. For a complete list of what is or is not allowed in storage, please see parts #9 and #13 of the lease.

If you have any questions about specific items, please contact your facility manager.

Do you offer corporate sponsorships?

We provide donated storage space or sponsorships to a variety of charities around the world.

What if water gets in my unit?

If there is water in your unit, please contact your facility manager as soon as possible.

Can I live in a storage unit?

No, you are not allowed to live in a storage unit. As tempting as it may seem for the rates that storage units go for, it's unsafe (and illegal).

How do I leave a review?

What is a premium location?

What’s the minimum lease term?
