What is the Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament?

Since 1960, the Pee-Wee hockey tournament known as “Tournoi Pee-Wee de Quebec” has become a prestigious competition where Pee-Wee hockey teams from five continents come together and compete.

The tournament will be held in the Videotron Center over a two-week period and is expected to draw around 240,000 spectators from all over the world to watch. Since its inception, many countries have been added to the tournament, transforming it into a melting pot of culture, language, and sport. The 2022 tournament is scheduled for May 1st-15th.

Originally the tournament was only a small part of the “Carnaval de Quebec” festivities, but as the competition continued to grow, it took center stage. This tournament means a great deal to the community of Quebec, as well as the players who compete in the tournament at a young age and grow up to play in professional leagues.

Over the years, 1,296 hockey players have competed in the Pee-Wee tournament and then gone on to play in the National Hockey League (NHL) or the World Hockey Association (WHA). A few well-known players include Guy Lafleur who played in the first year of the competition, the GOAT Wayne Gretsky in ‘74, and the famous ‘77 tournament included three future Hall of Famers: Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, and Steve Yzerman.

Diabolos History and Future

The Lucille Teasdale School Diabolos are a M13 Division 1 team. In 2019, they dominated, winning their first matchup 11-0 against Blyth Academy and then went on to win their two next games. Unfortunately, they fell short in the championship, losing 4-2.

In 2020, the team were able to clinch the title of school division champions. In that competition, they finished with a total of two wins, 12 goals scored, five goals against, and won the championship game 7-5.

As the defending champs, Lucille Teasdale are the favorites going into the 2022 competition. At StorageMart, we could not be prouder to sponsor a team of bright, young athletes on their way to hopefully their second victory in a row. They will sport a StorageMart logo on the back of their brand-new jersey’s made just for this tournament.
