StorageMart Supports Children in Foster Care

Columbia, Missouri – March 16, 2015 – May is Foster Care Awareness Month.  For the second consecutive year, the Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption Association (CMFCAA) is raising awareness of Missouri’s foster children with the “Shoe In for Foster Care” campaign by collecting donated shoes and lining them up along the Capitol Lawn outside the Missouri State Capitol Building in Jefferson City, MO from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

CMFCAA’s goal is to top last year’s total of 4,800 pairs of collected shoes.

CMFCAA staff members will be on hand at the event to promote the organization and answer questions about how best to support child foster care programs in Mid-Missouri.

“We’re very excited to be partnering with StorageMart and Hope for Caribbean Kids once again for our shoe drive,” DeAnna Alonso, Executive Director CMFCAA, said.  “This year, there will be more than 13,000 children in foster care in the state of Missouri.  Our goal is to represent our most vulnerable Missourians, one shoe at a time.”

Following the event, CMFCAA will gift the donated shoes to Hope for Caribbean Kids, Inc., who will sell the shoes to help fund the building of schools in Haiti and clean water programs in both Haiti and Kenya.

“The Central Missouri Foster Care and Adoption Association does important work to improve the lives of families, and especially children, in their community,” StorageMart Marketing Director Sarah Little said.  “StorageMart is proud to continue its partnership with CMFCAA through our Charity Storage program, and we’re excited to once again be part of a great event to help promote Foster Care Awareness Month.”
