Shoe In For Foster Care: Putting Best Feet Forward for Foster Kids

May is Foster Care Awareness Month.  In recognition, we’re about to kick off a new project with our Charity Storage partner the Central Missouri Foster Care & Adoption Association (CMFCAA) to raise awareness about Missouri’s foster kids.

Between now and May 13th, StorageMart stores in Columbia and Jefferson City, Missouri will be acting as collection points for donated shoes.  The morning of Tuesday, May 13th, we’re going to take those shoes to the lawn outside the Missouri State Capitol Building and line them up.  Our goal is to collect at least 9,000 pairs, representing the more than 9,000 children currently living in foster care in the State of Missouri.

Everyone is invited to come up to the Capitol Building to hang out with us that day.  CMFCAA staff will be on hand to answer questions about foster care in Missouri and share what they’re doing to help enhance the lives of foster kids and the families providing care for them.

Once the event is over, we’ll pick up all the shoes and pass them along to our good friends, Hope for Caribbean Kids, Inc.  You might remember Hope for Caribbean Kids from past shoe drives we’ve hosted for them.  They’re a fabulous non-profit organization who will work with the Shoeman Water Project to sell the shoes, using the proceeds to fund projects to build schools in Haiti and clean water systems in both Haiti and Kenya.

We hope to see you in Jefferson City on May 13th, but if you’re not able to make it you can still do your part by bringing gently used pairs of shoes to any of our Columbia or Jefferson City locations.  Designated boxes will be at each store for your shoe donations. Shoes may be donated during office hours.
